Ceremonies are good for building a common identity. They should feature in most section meetings and should have an appropriate level of ‘decorum’
There are types of ceremony:
- to say welcome at the start of the meeting
- to say good-bye at the end of the meeting
- to present a badge
- to welcome a visitor
- to mark a special occasion, for example a birthday.
- when a member leaves the section to move away.
Moving on ceremonies mark a young person transfer to an older section. Good transfer arrangements encourage young people to continue with Scouting. These ceremonies take place at a convenient time for both sections. These ceremonies emphasise that the members have enjoyed their time in the section and are now looking forward to the challenges, opportunities and fun of the next section.
