Welcome to the Scout Pages!

The Scout Troop is open to boys aged between 10 ½ and 14 years of age, although rules do exist that allow attendance to their 15th birthday.

Members

back to top back to top

Places in the Fulwood Troop are normally filled from the Cub Pack, however they are also offered to others who fulfil the following criteria:

If you would like to join the 142nd Fulwood Scout Troop, please download and complete the form here, and return it to the e-mail address shown. However please note that the Troop is currently oversubscribed and those joining from the Cub pack are expected to keep us oversubscribed for the next few years. As such it is unlikely that those joining the waiting list will be able to join the Troop before they become too old.

Leaders

back to top back to top

Almost all adults in Scouting, including uniformed Leaders, are volunteers and as such they give their time for free.

The Scout Troop Leaders have overall responsibility for the Troop, and the activities which members take part in. There are other helpers including Explorers and sometimes Guides working towards their service awards.

Meetings (& Where we meet)

back to top back to top

Uniform

back to top back to top

Scouts is a uniformed organisation. All Scouts are expected to wear uniform for:

Boys should take pride in their uniform and do their best to look smart. Uniform consists of:

[Scout Uniform]
  • Teal Green shirt
  • Group Neckerchief - Grey with Purple Stripe
  • Leather Scout Woggle (Some Scouts make their own personal one whilst on camp or other events)
  • Navy Blue activity trousers

Badges

Scouts can work towards a number badges during their time in the Troop. The main badges worked for are the Challenges, leading to the Chief Scout's Gold Award, the top award that can be earned in Scouts. There are three Challenges, and the requirements for them can be found in the Scout Handbook, The Scout Matrix, or viewed on ScoutBase UK [go to Scoutbase UK Scout Index]

Parental Responsibilities

It is hoped that parents will want to support their son's Scout Group. There are many ways in which this support can be given:

Subscriptions

back to top back to top

Scouting costs money. The Leaders do their best to offer quality Scouting for the lowest possible cost. The main source of income for the Group is the Membership Subscription paid by all members. Subs are currently paid on a Term basis via standing order.

Basic Skills

back to top back to top

Many Troops identify their annual camp as the highlight of the year and at Fulwood this is no exception.

However for scouts to fully enjoy their annual camp it is necessary for them to learn the ‘basics’ which is what we attempt to do throughout the year during our weekly meetings.

Some of the events we do are reported above (see past events) however some more information about specific ‘skills’ are detailed on the pages linked below.

This is the boring theory! but  without it we can’t enjoy it.
