Troop Events On This page: Pictures from Troop Nights - Summer 2003 |
The Fulwood Scout Troop are more than active during all weathers. We never let the rain spoil things, although most of the outdoor activities this year have been dry with only one exception so far. The principle is that no Scout has ever melted in rain!.
Unfortunately I was unable to take my camera with me on most of this terms activities so pictures are scarce in this terms report.
The Term started with some practice for the Loxley Cup with a bit of Fire Lighting instruction, and of course some cooking of sausages to make it all worth while. This made use of our recently constructed shelter behind the Hut that will enable a bit of wet weather cooking during the winter months.
The Loxley Cup was held at our Hut on Saturday 17th May, and all but a couple of Troops from the District entered a Patrol in this Cooking Competition. I am pleased to say that, although we organised it, that we proved triumphant and added a third trophy to the cabinet.

We included some new ideas into the programme this term with some orienteering around White Stones Moor, and some Weaselling out on Higger Tor. For those who don't know this 'sport' it involved squeezing through tight gaps and holes in the rocks. Good fun I'm told and an event that leaves you extremely muddy!, I think that's why they think it's good fun.
Ready to Go Peepo
We attempted a bold experiment this term. In partnership with the Leaders of the 296th Lodge Moor Troop we swapped Troops for a night. The leaders from Lodge Moor took our Scouts canoeing and Sailing at Rother Valley whilst the Fulwood Leaders challenged the Lodge Moor Scouts to complete the Porter Water Relay.
Having completed the Relay the week before, Fulwood managed a Time of 45 minutes to reach the top. This proved to be only just fast enough to beat Lodge Moors time of 55 minutes, although they did have to complete this in a deeper stream following some very heavy rain over a few days.
Finally we ended the summer with the now regular outing around Win Hill, accompanied by various family members - including the Dogs.
