This is a couple of reports of the
2011 annual camp to High Arnside Nr Coniston, Cumbria.
By Paddy Fisher and Josh Snowdon & Olly Patu.
This was my 12th camp with Fulwood and our 4th consecutive year at High Arnside. We were again located up on the top field with spectacular views and this year some amazing weather - most unusual for this part of the world

Paddy's Report
It
was a long car journey to camp and we only had one CD and Isaac got one song
stuck in his head for the whole week! But when we arrived we got down to work
digging the bog pit and pitching camp as usual.
On Sunday we climbed up black crag to watch the air show and when we got to the top there was a spectacular view of Lake Windermere below and our wait was worth it when we saw some planes flying quite low above us.
Monday was a great day because we went on a hike and when we stopped for lunch some of us climbed up a stream a long way up the mountain and then climbed all the way back down again.
Then on Tuesday we built flag poles in the morning which was fun and my patrol leader built an incredible pulley system to raise our flag.
On Wednesday we went on our expedition to Rydal Hall camp site a little over five miles away and after getting lost in Loughrigg fell we found the camp site and went swimming in a waterfall pool that was really deep and cold. That night I had my first and only shower of the week.
Thursday was a great day and we walked a short route back to camp as our camera was out of battery. On the walk we found a water fall and jumped in that one too. When we got back to camp we made a water slide which was really good fun.
On Friday we went kayaking on Coniston water and this year I didn’t capsize. The water was also warmer which helped if you did and we got to jump off the pier which was great.
On Saturday we packed up and went home after a great week.
The food on scout camp tasted great and this year it was all properly cooked which made it even better.
Overall I enjoyed the whole week even more than I did last year.

Saturday
This was when we pitched all the tents and made our fires, and for dinner we had burgers which were tasty.
Sunday
We walked up Black Cragg to go and see the air show, but there weren’t very many planes but when we got back to the campsite we saw the Red Arrows and they flew over our camp which was cool.
Monday
We climbed up Great Intake which was about 8 miles long, it was quite fun and afterwards we paddled in some river for a bit.
Tuesday
We got ready for the Expedition and learnt about map reading.
Wednesday
This is the day when we did the expedition with our massive rucksacks on the way to Rydal Hall, I found expedition fun and quite easy as we didn’t get lost.
The campsite was really nice and posh and we actually could use flushing toilets!!
We had our Wayfarer meals, mine was disgusting but everyone else’s looked really nice.
Thursday
Today, we walked back to High Arnside ( our camp) and when we got back, there was a water slide which was fun.
Friday
We made Bivouacs around the campsite which was fun and they were actually quite comfortable and I got a good night’s sleep. J
Saturday
We packed all our stuff away and went home.
Overall, this camp was fun and I enjoyed it. Thanks Mike, Dave, Paul and everyone else.
Sadly, on the way back home, the car broke down and we had to wait by the motorway for 2 hours for the AA to pick us up and tow us back to Sheffield L
Olly's report
The car journey
to scout camp took around three to three and a half hours and as soon as we
arrived we were put straight to work hammering in pegs and digging. Our camp
site was on Arnside farm surrounded by big fields, hills, trees and wood for our
fires. The leaders didn't watch over us all the time, which was a good thing, so
we had to make our own fires, collect wood and cook our own food.
We had loads of different activities on camp. My favourite one was the night hike but I also enjoyed canoeing and the wide games. For the over night hike our patrol leader, James, and APL, Michael had to plan. The route was pretty similar to the one we took last year.
I think that this year was a lot better than last year because it hardly rained and I wasn't the one of the youngest. I can't wait until next year's camp
As I appear to state at the end of all my camp reports, ‘yet another successful camp’, so we must be doing something right.
Hopefully we will all be enjoying ourselves here again next year,
Mike
