Scout Report

This is the report of the 2008 annual camp to High Arnside Nr Coniston, Cumbria.

It is written by myself, Mike Halliwell, and obviously provides a leaders eye view. There are also reports from two of the scouts this year, which give an interesting view of their experience.

A link at the foot of each page takes you to the next day, or you can navigate to any day using the links at the top of each page.

Saturday, Here we go again.

This year saw another return visit to possibly our favourite site of High Arnside, which is on top of the hill between Skelwith Bridge and Consiton. The field, known as Stone Chair Hill, is next to High Arnside Tarn which is very convenient for a lot of our activities and has a useful stream running through it which we use to fill 'Puffin' Billy for hot water.

In usual fashion, we packed the trailer on Friday evening and the leaders and the senior patrol set off to avoid the busy traffic with the trailer, and get there early on the Saturday morning. For the scouts, Saturday was spent travelling to the site, transported by various parents and they arrived mid afternoon in time to decide where each patrol area would be and then pitch their tents.

As I mentioned above, we had a senior patrol this year, made up of the eldest scouts. Their role was to help the leaders run the camp, but also to enjoy being one of the patrols. The patrols had been decided back in Sheffield and for the record the names and members of each being:-

Wolves Cobras
Thomas Stacey Luke Garmonsway
Rory Gormley Matthew Marshall
Liam O'Toole Lewis Taylor
Alex Tomlinson Jack Oliver
Thomas Marshall

The Patrol names were taken from the names that BP used in Scouting for Boys. However the Senior Patrol decided on their own name and I'll leave that to your imagination!

Cocks
Tom Shaw
Toby Evans
Sam Thompson

The day ended with an overview of the programme of the week ahead, and the traditional Bog Wash - (Hot Chocolate).
