142nd Troop Camp 2008 - Cumbria

Friday morning was yet another hot and sunny start, and the morning activity was courtesy of Summitreks, an outdoor activity company who showed the scouts a bit of Canadian Canoeing on Coniston Water.
It really was hot with very few clouds, and I was worried that they would all end up with serious sun burn, however the instructor took them to the other side of the lake where there was shade provided by some large trees and they spent a few hours playing games, which inevitably got them wet - what else?
After a late lunch it was time to start taking some of the tents down and building some shelters to sleep in for the last night. You may remember that the senior patrol had already made theirs earlier in the week, albeit without one end completed? The rest of the scouts found what they considered to be a suitable site for their 'communal' shelter, although Lewis decided it looked less than comfortable and made his own - and probably had a better sleep as a result as the others did look a little cramped, as you might see from this picture taken the following morning.
And finally: After the evening meal it was time for the camp fire - HOWEVER, nature had other ideas and after an extremely hot day put on a dramatic thunderstorm which was quiet impressive if not a bit 'close for comfort' at times.
We managed to stay around the now sheltered fire for a bit but eventually had to admit defeat and retreated to the marquee where we finished the night, before sending the scouts out to their shelters (in the rain)

And did it rain? we were convinced the scouts would be back down the hill before long to tell us their sleeping bags were soaked through - especially the senior patrol with their 'well ventilated' shelter.
