142nd Troop Camp 2007 - North Wales
Home Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat
After a good nights sleep beneath a full moon we were up and ready to renew our promise at 8am 300m above the North Wales village of Beddgelert, and this time they did so without prompting.
The hill we normally hike up when visiting this area, Moel Hebog, was completely covered in cloud so we were pleased that we hadn't chosen to camp out on that hill.
After renewing our promise we packed up and set off back to camp for a late breakfast.
Camp Sports
To celebrate centenary day, we had camp sports today.
This years disciplines being:
Made from locally sourced renewable branches! about 12" long, the Scouts whittled a point at one end and fitted flights to the other. These were then launched down the field, avoiding the toilet tent, and the winner being the one that landed the farthest away after the best of three throws.
Mallet Throwing
Proving that this is a versatile piece of equipment it was put to good use as a piece of sporting equipment. You guessed it, the further it went the more points.
Welly Wanging
A traditional sport even in BPs day I'm sure. Again the winners being the farthest down the field after the best of two throws.
This may well have been a traditional sport back in 1907, however I suspect it didn't involve each team being either side of a deep pond in a river! The winning team was the one that stayed dry!
This is a favourite of ours and suspect it is somewhat younger than the Scout Association. Based on our Porter Water Relay a member of each patrol races against a counterpart from the other patrol. This provided some exciting individual races.
Cross Country
This was set by Paul who ran ahead of the Scouts with about 15 minutes start. Laying a trail of flour he was then hotly pursued by the Scouts who tried hard to catch him but without success. They did however collect points based on their finishing position.
