142nd Troop Camp 2007 - North Wales

A standard feature of our camps is the opportunity for the Scouts to plan and organise a small expedition from our site to another. The morning is spent planning the walk and packing, splitting the tents between them. This year they all elected to cram each patrol of five into one 4 man tent !! in order to save weight on the walk.
Seen here are both the Bull and Stag Patrols setting off on their hikes, with the summit of Snowdon clear of cloud in the background.
Each patrol takes a different route to the over night site, collecting answers to various questions set at given grid references.
Unfortunately,
despite giving the impression that he was happy for the Scouts to stay on the
site unaccompanied the site owner insisted that an adult stayed with them,
because a group of Guides had used all the toilet paper in a neighbouring site
to clean their shoes a few weeks before. I suspect it might have had more to do
with charging for an extra adult though. Despite this I managed to keep well
away from the Scouts that night in order to give them their independence.
As a result of the owners unfortunate behaviour, and the extortionate charges, I have not publicised details of the site they stayed on that night. There are better sites in that area for family holidays.
On the plus side the Scouts had access to real toilets and a couple of showers, and they enjoyed some decent views from a tranquil lakeside.
