Scout Report

This is the report of the 2006 annual camp to High Arnside near Coniston, Cumbria.

It is written by myself, Mike Halliwell, and obviously provides a leaders eye view. There is also a report from one of the scouts, which provides an interesting view from someone taking part rather than organising it.

A link at the foot of each page takes you to the next day, or you can navigate to any day using the links at the top of each page.

Saturday, Here we Go - again! and a hot week ahead

This year saw another return visit to our favoured site in Cumbria, for a camp in what turned out to be a week of broken weather records since records began, with higher temperatures than ever, and more sun for the month of July.

Situated about half way between Skelwith Bridge and Coniston, the site is part of High Arnside Farm and is next to the Tarn of the same name.

For the Scouts, Saturday was spent travelling to the site, having packed the trailer and vehicles the previous evening when the Leaders made the journey north. The Scouts themselves travelled by minibus which was arranged by the parents.

All managed to arrive at about 6.30pm in glorious sunshine, and as the Leaders had been there since 9.30am there was only the patrol tents and dining shelters to put up.

With this pleasant surprise, the Scouts then ventured out to find suitable sites for their patrols which this year were named the Granny Jans' and the Zoo. Hmmm, as always It’s never a good idea to ask how they arrive at their names, however inspired by our passion to follow our camps as closely to Scouting for Boys as we can, we also gave them traditional names - The Wolves, and The Bulls.

For the record the members of each being:-

Wolves (Granny Jans') Bulls (Zoo)
Jonathan Buchsbaum Robbie Mitchell - Williams
Sam Thompson Tom Manley
Toby Evans Joseph Harrison
Will Lumb Tom Shaw
Thomas Rafferty Thomas Stacey
Lewis Taylor Rory Gormley
