142nd Troop Camp 2004 - Cumbria

Wednesday is the day that both patrols backpack to another site, this year the National Trust site in Great Langdale.
The morning is set aside for route planning and packing etc. Before setting off each patrol is given clues at set locations between each site for both days, that have to be answered on their return. This dictates pretty much where each patrol walks and avoids routes that include high cliffs etc. Each patrol carries their tents and evening meal, which includes a Trangia Stove so that they can make a cup of tea or some soup etc.
Unfortunately
no pictures of the patrols setting off this year, however we do have these which
were taken earlier in the week of 'the blang thongs' on the left, and the 'smack
tards' on the right.
Not the smartest examples ! but most are still smiling.
The two eldest scouts, a few weeks off becoming Explorers were given a separate task.
Being much older they were taken to a
secret location nearly 13 miles away from camp and asked to find out what the
'ape' of Grizedale was. Armed
only
with the contents of their backpacks and a map they were then blindfold, as seen
here, and taken to their start point.
When they arrived at their start point they then had to identify where they were on their map and then set off for Grizedale.
