This year we had the luxury of Tony's landrover, which was useful for carrying the large pioneering poles that we are often unable to use. So with the lessons learnt back at home using small broom handles it was time to make a real bridge capable of taking the weight of a few scouts.
The stream that provided our water for puffin' billy was the chosen objective and both patrols produced the 'A' frames and walkway required. A major test for some on remembering how to tie the clove hitch, and various lashings required.
It took a while, however by the end of the morning the bridge was complete and the stream was dammed to make a deeper pond beneath it. I suspect this was to provide a bigger splash should anyone fall off.
The afternoon was spent at the Scout Sailing Centre 'Moor Crag' on the shores of Lake Windermere. This is another activity that we are unable to take much advantage of during the year, with the exception of Splashdown, and proved to be great fun for all.
Seen
here in their boats with 'The Old Man of Coniston' in the clouds behind. All the
scouts were under the supervision of the sailing instructors and in pairs had
complete control of a boat.
One other attraction here was the showers and real toilets !!
