Day 3, It's up that hill

If you have read the reports of our camps since 2001 you will know that Monday is Big Hill Day and our visits to this part of the world include a hike up The Old Man Of Coniston.

The good news was that the warm sunny weather continued and as we arrived at our start point the summit could be clearly seen from the Village of Coniston. To comply with current Scouting Rules our group was split into three groups which walked up via Goat's Water. Strangely group one decided to try to find the cairn between the Old Man and Levers Hawse which meant that groups two and three reached the summit first, just as the cloud fell temporarily below us obscuring the view. Fortunately this was short lived and we were able to enjoy views out over Morecambe Bay.

The group together at the top.                                        The leaders enjoy the views.

The route down descends steeply and passes Low Water where the more intrepid and hardy members went for a cooling swim. Me thinks sub zero and best left to others. However to prove that they did it here's the pictures.
