10 minutes drive from the camp site is Capel Curig and the Mountain Leader Training Centre known as Plas Y Brenin as shown above. In case you were wondering about the snow, this picture is taken from their web site which you can see by clicking on the picture above.
At Plas Y Brenin we were able to take advantage of two activities that we are not normally able to do as we do not have the necessary leader qualifications, or equipment.
During the morning each Patrol was 'set adrift' in kayaks,
actually two lashed together to form a sort of catamaran. As you can see from
the top picture, there are two lakes and the patrols managed to explore both and
find time to play water football between the two craft.
In the afternoon, following lunch, it was time to try a bit of dry slope skiing. For some this was as easy as falling over and managed to oblige accordingly. Others had previous experience and were able to look after themselves from the start. Fortunately for the novices the instructor was able to spend a lot of time teaching all to ski to a basic but proficient standard. Certainly all were riding up the lift and down the slopes very confidently by the end of the session.
Plas Y Brenin offer a whole range of courses AND taster sessions of activities such as Canoeing and Skiing etc. For more information take a look at their web site by clicking on the picture above.
