Day 3, Where'd that hill go ?

Traditionally on Fulwood Camps, Monday is 'Big Hill Day' and this year was no exception. Although we were camped at the foot of Snowdon, a neighbouring hill was chosen, Moel Hebog, as it offered the potential of being quieter and less crowded. It was also the hill successfully climbed during our camp in 2001.

Moel Hebog, seen here (left) in the distance in fairer weather, was just covered by cloud as we set off during the morning. We all hoped that by the time we reached the summit that the cloud would have cleared.

The first hour or so was clear and made for some decent walking i.e. not too hot and not too cold. The picture on the right was taken moments before that all changed!. As we entered the cloud, approximately 40 minutes walking from the top, the rain became very heavy and added to the high wind we decided to admit defeat and turn for home. Unfortunately, although we had walked into the cloud, walking out of it proved more difficult, as it appeared to follow us down to lower heights, continuing to deposit its rain on us as we walked.

Returning to the camp site, completely soaked, the rest of the day was spent building dams in the stream that ran through the site. Well if you can't beat being soaked !!.
