The following pages contain a brief summary of the activities that we got up to during our annual camp this year.

It is written by the Troop Leader, Mike Halliwell, and obviously provides a leaders eye view. For a view from a Scout's perspective take a look at the report by Donald Bennet by clicking on his link above.

A link at the foot of each page takes you to the next day, or you can navigate to any day using the links at the top of each page.

Day 1, Here we Go!

Having packed the trailer early on Friday evening, an advanced party of intrepid leaders and two Scouts set off for Cumbria, resting the night in a rather nice cottage belonging to one of the leaders.

The idea of this was to get an early start and get most of the tents put up before the rest arrived, however after spending a little longer chatting than expected it was nearly 11.30am before we arrived on the site ready to start work.

Eventually however, we managed to get the main tents put up and even managed to rig up a 'mains' water supply from the local stream using a hose pipe. When the Scouts arrived during the afternoon they put up their own patrol tents.

The picture above shows a panoramic view of the site with the Patrol Tents to the right and the tell tale signs that whenever a Scout is on Camp that a fire is not far away.

For the first time this year we used 'four man' hike tents as Patrol Tents complete with sewn-in ground sheets (21st Century here we come).

The site belongs to a National Trust Farm (High Yewdale) about a mile outside Coniston. Chosen for its secluded location and proximity to some decent walks, slopes, rivers, and lakes which would all be fully utilised throughout the week.
