Today was spent 'messin' about on the river'. Yes it was build your own raft time, to show who had actually been listening when we learnt how to tie knots and lash poles together.

After carrying the equipment down to the river (by the lake) and several discussions later, the two patrols built their own rafts in preparation for the big race.

The object was to sail each raft up stream without anyone touching the river bed and back to the start again. After two test races, the eventual winners were 'The Famous Five'
Seen on the right are two of the winners sailing out into the lake with Moel Hebog, the scene of yesterdays triumphs, framed neatly in the background.

What remained of the afternoon was taken up Baking, yes it can be done on camp.

By constructing a camp oven using a steel tube, and making a shelf and a door, the Scouts mixed up a cake mixture and successfully baked two sponge cakes which were finished with a jam filling.

Seen here coming out of the oven is the cake made by the Royal Goats, which cooked as the Scouts went for a 20 minute run, following tracking signs.
The oven was also used to make baked potatoes later in the week.
