Sunday, 29th July

Another hot day which saw the Scouts developing their own little areas of the camp during the morning and generally settling in.

The picture here shows the idyllic setting we were in. The lake was a five minute walk and proved a useful asset for the raft building on Tuesday morning.

After lunch we went for a short walk to discover more about the countryside that we were to live in over the next week.

The Scouts cooked all their evening meals on open pit fires, and hot water for all the camp was provided by 'Puffin Billy 2', a remake of 'Puffin Billy' owned by the 296th Lodge Moor Troop, and made by Dave Clegg in 1974 who is seen on the right of the picture below and now a leader with the 142nd.

Also in the picture is leader Tony Middleton, and Parent / Camp Surgeon! Jonathan Beard who was fortunately never asked to demonstrate his medical skills.
