It is unlikely that most Scouts have been invested long before they find themselves on a hike of some sort. Today, for most it was their first experience of hiking up a mountain, and no ordinary mountain at that.

Although we were camping at the foot of Snowdon, I decided to leave that well trodden area of North Wales to those who prefer to be part of a queue of walkers.

Instead we were to conquer the 732 meter climb that is Moel Hebog (782m) from the relative safety and tranquillity of the village of Beddgelert.

The weather was almost perfect for this walk with clear skies and hot weather and no rain forecast . Some may think this was as perfect as you can get, but the very hot sun on a hill with no shelter made walking slow and very tiring.

Seen here no more than a couple of hundred meters above Beddgelert, the Troop were still full of encouragement and raring to go.

With a combination of the heat and steep climb, a few began to feel that they would never get to the top. However with a well timed lunch stop just before the summit they were all re-fuelled and ready to make the final ascent to the top, as seen here. (note the clear skies).

The views were so good and the weather so warm that we spent over an hour relaxing and sunbathing on the summit before making our way back down to the vehicles.
