Saturday 28th July to Saturday 4th August 2001

The following pages contain a brief summary of the activities that we got up to during our annual camp this year.

It is written by the Troop Leader, Mike Halliwell, and obviously provides a leaders eye view.

However, one Scout has written his account, which is published at the end of these set of pages.

Saturday, 28th July - Just Pack & Go!

After a last minute breakdown with one of the Landrovers, we eventually loaded up the trailers with all the tents, tables, food (and the vehicles with Scouts).

Seen here, clean and tidy, they were split into two Patrols as shown.

On a very hot and sunny day, we very quickly reached the highest part of the Snake Pass (where the Pennine Way crosses the road) and decided that with near perfect views that it would make a very sensible location to have lunch.

The rest of the journey was VERY busy and Very HOT and involved several stops before we finally arrived in Nantgwynant later than expected - at 5.30pm. Fortunately however this meant that we were not pitching tents in the heat of the day.

The camp site was approximately two miles east of the small Welsh village of Beddgelert, on a farm called Llyndy Isaf.

Access is along a narrow farm track and ends with a steep incline, which the Landrovers tackled in their stride to get all the equipment directly to the camping area.

A nice remote site, but close enough to the necessary amenities. It even had a freshwater spring that supplied the drinking water direct to the Marquee.
