Groups can book 'The Hut' for weekend accommodation from Friday night, or any night during school holidays (please check with the bookings secretary)
Climbing Groups please see the link at the bottom of this page
We are located on the western outskirts of Sheffield, in an area known as Fulwood. Click on the link here 142nd Sheffield (Fulwood) Scout HQ, 551 Fulwood Road. to see a map (Courtesy of Multimap) which shows the precise location of 'The Hut'. Use the link on the left to return to this page.
If you prefer to use traditional maps our Grid Reference is SK 3075 8545 or Latitude 53.3651 Longitude -1.5392.
Directions to the Hut (Word Document) can be downloaded here which give details of how to find us from whichever way you approach Sheffield.
Alternatively, if you have Satellite Navigation you can download these Point Of
Interest (POI) files
here which can be loaded onto your device. By selecting this POI on
your SatNav it will direct you to the Scout Hut. (Please note this is designed
for TomTom Satellite Navigators, but can be used on other systems as well)
The Hut is less than 10 minutes drive from the Peak District where you can enjoy
Climbing on cliffs such as Stanage Edge, White Edge, Curbar Edge and many more.

As the map here shows, we are very close to the valleys of Hope and Edale, an area which offers fantastic walks and hikes, with most of the hills within Terrain Zero (i.e. below 500m). With the start of the Pennine Way at Edale and the famous Kinder Scout about 30 minutes drive away, you are never far away from some challenging walks and beautiful scenery. There are also many walks that start and finish at 'The Hut'.
Designed for and used by Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts 'The Hut' is never going to find itself with any star rating. However with the donations made by those using 'The Hut' for parties and weekends we are slowly able to make improvements to the accommodation.
There are no bunks
or beds, so air beds or camp beds are recommended. However the main Hall
(pictured below) is approximately 11m x
7m and can accommodate 20 people comfortably (more if you prefer to be cosy).
There is also a
smaller
'meeting' room that can take about 5-6 people. Both rooms are heated effectively
by wall mounted convector heaters which are controlled by a timer and thermostat
in the main hall. There are two separate toilets, one suitable for people with
mobility problems, and there is a single shower as well.
There is a Kitchen equipped with a Hob, Oven, Fridge, Microwave, Kettle and basic cooking equipment. Utensils can be provided on request.
There is an area behind 'The Hut' suitable for outdoor cooking or bar-b-que's, which includes a purpose built shelter for those rainy evenings.
A large field behind 'The Hut' which belongs to the local Health Authority Sports Club, can be used for football and other games.
There is a choice of two shopping centres approximately 5 minutes walk from 'The Hut'. In one direction there is a Tesco Express, Petrol Station, Laundrette, Chinese Takeaway, Indian Restaurant / take away, and the nearest Pub which serves food and a large selection of Real Ales.
In the other direction there is the village of Fulwood with a Co-Op (late shop), Butcher, Greengrocers, newsagent and off licence.
There are several places to eat within a few minutes drive, and a choice of Pubs to relax in after your days' activities.
The local Church, 'Christ Church Fulwood', who sponsor our Scout Group are only a couple of hundred yards along the road and hold three services on Sundays. Normally at 9.15am, 11am, and 6.30pm. For more details about their activities and services click here for their web site.

The 142nd Fulwood Scout Group uses all money given for the use of 'The Hut' on maintenance and improvement of the building. This improves the environment for the Scouts and for those using the place for other activities. This will also help to ensure the continuation of Scouting in this area.
Currently, we are grateful to receive £10 per hour for events and parties held during the day or evening, and £3 per head per night for weekend accommodation (Min £24 per night per group).
The Scout Hut is popular with climbing groups due to its proximity to several good climbs and indoor climbing walls.
We have created a separate page with links to 2 day weather forecasts at well known climbing sites close to the Hut, and some other links of climbing interest as well. To go to that page click here
